MEET ME @ THE ALTAR - SLC

Meet Me @ The Altar, a pop punk trio originating from the sunny state of Florida, made their way to Salt Lake City last week to put on one hell of a show at The Soundwell. The band consists of Edith Victoria (Lead vocals), Ada Juarez (Drums), and Tea Campbell (Guitar). In 2023, the band started the year off with their own US tour, before a few festivals and accompanying Australian band, 5 Seconds Of Summer on their ‘The 5SOS Show’ US tour. A crazy year, full of travel and being met by fans, new and old; Meet Me @ The Altar took no time to get right back on the road on January 19th of this year for the Say It To My Face Tour.

The Soundwell, their second Utah venue within a near full year of shows, was pretty stacked with adoring fans young and older. As I arrived to the front of the pit, I stood by a young fan, probably the age of 10, and her father, who were very excitedly awaiting the headliner of the night. I had little knowledge of the band, originally planning to see them while they opened for 5SOS last year, but was ecstatic to see just how fun their set would be. I was anything but disappointed as their set went on.

They started the show with Same Language, one of my now favorite tracks of their latest release “Past // Present // Future” album. Immediately, the entire vibe of the building was beyond lively. I have a deep seeded love for the pop punk genre of music, most of my first loves in music starting in the genre. They carried through with a few more songs off their new release, including Few More Tomorrows; The song was written after Edith's beloved dog had passed. Few More Tomorrows beat out May The Odds Be In Your Favor in a crowd vote off.

The band is a group of empowered women-loving chicks, who made sure to hype up every other woman in the venue as they introduced Hit Like A Girl, even asking for the ladies in the room to create a mosh pit, joking that it was “ladies only, no gentlemen allowed!” They followed with a few covers, including Since You’ve Been Gone by Kelly Clarkson, a huge influence for the band’s music and journey thus far. I loved the overall vibe of the show, the energy from the band themselves, and how easily they had the audience in front of them enthralled by their every word. I left the show a bit early, but I must say Meet Me @ The Altar, has been one of the top bands I’ve been graced with the opportunity to photograph.
