LO RENZ - Crave
Small indie artists have been sweeping the globe recently with the rise of short-form content. With the growing popularity of platforms like SoundCloud, and the ever-expanding rise of social media, indie artists are able to release/promote their own music like never before. Whether it be pop, rap, rock n roll, blues, punk, indie, there is a little bit of something special for everyone.
Along with the rising popularity of indie artists, came small Tiktok artist LO RENZ, an indie artist that could fit right in with the pop/indie scene! Her new single ‘crave’ is a song of longing, with vibey instrumentals and a misty tone. Her sound could be compared to something like that of Kali Uchis, with a dreamlike quality. This track is a real “get in my car and cruise” track, with a relatable message of yearning and confusion, a love that you want to hate so badly but you aren't able to find it in you.
Something very enjoyable about indie tracks like ‘crave’ is the rawness to the sound. Even with the vocal effects, and the more whispered tone of the song, there is a different type of vibe when it comes to the emotion behind indie tracks that can’t always be captured by mainstream artists. With the rise of more pop/acoustic indie artists through social media in the last few years, it seems like lots of artists are trying to fit a specific genre or fit a certain mold to gain popularity, but this new track from LO RENZ is raw, its emotional, and it's something that could put her name out there while also maintaining originality.
You've got to love a versatile track, one that you could put on while studying, one you could dance to, one you could sing along with in the shower. The melodic drum beat, and the wavey vocals really make you feel like you are living inside the song, like you are standing in surround sound. The way that the vocals flow through the relatively basic and pointed instrumentals makes your listening experience entirely immersive.
The lyricism within this track also shows some similarities to that of an Ethel Cain type, blaming oneself for something that has happened, assuming it must always be your fault. Paired with a longing for the person you think you pushed away. A lyric I would like to highlight is the first verse; ‘Tell me is there something I did wrong,. You packed your bags, now you’re on the run, not with me but you live in my dreams’. Another lyric worth noting when it comes to the storyline of the track would be the chorus repeated throughout the song; ‘Ooh baby, I just wanna get you alone. Ooh I’m craving, how your voice sounds over the phone’
Overall, this release from LO RENZ is an incredibly well-rounded indie track, definitely a favorite of 2025. It sounds like a number one streaming song that you didn't know existed. If you’re in the market for a new small artist to support, with a mythical, dreamlike quality to her music, you can find LO RENZ newest single ‘crave’ out now on streaming platforms!
