DAVVN + JACK THE UNDERDOG - LIVE IN STL

This weekend in St. Louis and Kansas City, there were lots of extremely talented artists making stops on their respective tours. The weather was about as bipolar as the price of gas; all of us sweating the first night and freezing the next. While we’re all in an era of things being overpriced and people being overwhelmed, Davvn and Jack The Underdog find a way to take you out of the dread and uncertainty for an evening.

McCall and Mike have somehow managed to make a time machine out of a tour, while Jack sends the crowd constant allowance to be happy and have fun. It’s next to impossible to be in a funk with any of these artists in the same room as you. I was lucky enough to have spent two nights with them on the Time Warped tour. It was so refreshing to spend my time in such colorful, lively rooms. Fans were drenched in sweat from jumping and singing, but not a single one of them cared. Everyone was perfectly content exactly as they were, but I assume the same could be said for anyone who was transported back to the 2000’s in a swirl of blues and pinks.

There’s something for everyone within Jack The Underdog’s art. They write about love, hate, just being over it - all while throwing some insane twists on Taylor Swift covers. If you’re within the crowd that considers yourself a “swemo,” it would be worthwhile to get yourself to one of Jack’s shows ASAP. They never stay on an inch of the stage too long - constantly spinning and jumping in a fit of pink hair, pink sneakers, a pink microphone. Truly such a captivating performance all around, from all 3 members on stage. They ended their set with a cover of “Back to December” featuring Davvn’s McCall Bliss, which was a perfect way to segue one act into the next.

Davvn’s set begins by immediately throwing you back in time. They perfectly capture the vibe of what the “y2k aesthetic” truly looks and feels like. The entire setlist is like it’s made for the best show imaginable - roping you in immediately, slowing it down for a sec, hyping you back up. There was not a still body in the room for a second. Lights flashing, multi-colored hair hair whipping around, constant smiles from Mike’s side of the stage - seeing Davvn live is something no one should live without. I don’t think I’ve ever seen any group so happy to be up on a stage, or so happy in general. They keep your eyes locked on them the entire show, and invite you to come say hey and take photos right after. Everyone is so incredibly welcomed, and you can tell they really do appreciate each individual person in the room.
