Flipturn Live in Columbia
Flipturn’s final stop on their US tour brought them to Rose Park in Columbia, MO on August 24, and the setting could not have been more perfect. Nestled beneath a canopy of trees and strung with warm lights, the outdoor venue created an intimate, almost magical atmosphere. With perfect late-summer weather, it felt like the ideal backdrop for an outdoor show.
The evening opened with Odie Leigh, whose set blended warm vocals and catchy melodies. Her sound carried a relaxed confidence that suited the summer night perfectly. Between songs, she kept the crowd engaged with sharp humor, pausing to share a string of “yo daddy” jokes penned by her merch girl. The set closed with a surprise, a fiery drum solo that flipped the mood and drew roaring applause, priming the audience for the main event.
After a brief intermission underscored by ominous intro music, Flipturn took the stage and immediately shifted the energy into overdrive. From the very first chord, the band commanded the crowd’s attention with a sound that was tight and soaring, every bit as precise as their studio recordings but with an added edge that only comes from a live performance. Their chemistry onstage was undeniable, and their joy was contagious.
The lighting design elevated the entire experience, transforming the tree-lined venue into a kaleidoscope of color. Beams pulsed and shifted in sync with the music, creating a sense of movement and immersion that perfectly complemented the band’s dynamic performance. Each song felt like a celebration, and the crowd responded in kind, dancing, singing, and matching the band’s energy at every turn.
When the opening notes of “August” rang out, the park erupted. Hearing that track in August felt almost cinematic, a moment that brought the night full circle. Voices carried across the venue in a unified chorus, creating a euphoric high point that no one wanted to end.
Flipturn closed their set beaming, waving goodbye to fans who had clearly just witnessed something special. Their final stop at Rose Park did not just feel like the end of a tour. It felt like the perfect summer send-off.
