The Darkness Live at The Pageant

Some concerts can entertain visually, but only a handful are able to resonate with your soul. The Darkness is one of the few that can keep you entertained musically, physically. St. Louis showed up and showed out for their stop at The Pageant– young and old, punk and prep. The crowd was as diverse as it could get.

Joining the British glam-rock band was Mark Daly & the Ravens, straight from Ireland. I hadn’t heard of the group until that night, but I’m so glad to have experienced them. Their sound was something I’ve not heard for a long while: punchy, energetic, and a perfect mix of hard and blues rock. The group had a great flow throughout their performance, a perfect chemistry between the members. It was their first show with The Darkness on this tour according to Mark. He made a point to be extra polite with the crowd as they cheered them on stating “if we’re gonna have a polite-off, I’m gonna win.” The band debuted their new song “Crazy” which for me, was the hook. Mark’s unique vocals and the band’s steady rhythm set them apart from the openers I’ve seen so far this year. I hope they come back with their own headlining tour soon. I’m already dying to see them again!

The Darkness took the stage with a bang. Justin donned a pale blue top and bright white pants that caught the light just right. The Brit’s energy and spontaneity remain unmatched in my opinion. From jumping three feet in the air to standing on his head, no headliner I’ve ever seen has had nearly as much energy as Justin. I’ve seen interactive artists, and I’ve seen artists that are just there to perform and move on to the next show. The Darkness has set my expectations high as they went above and beyond with including the crowd and giving the press a good show within the first three songs. It’s rare you see an artist, let alone a band give press the time of day. They kicked off the night with a high-octane track from their new album—and the tour’s namesake—Dreams on Toast: ‘Rock and Roll Party Cowboy’ and ended with their number one hit ‘I Believe in a Thing Called Love’, prior to their encore of course. The setlist they had curated was enough to send the beat from your head to your feet.

If you’re looking for a high energy, uber interactive show, The Darkness is the way to go. Check out their website to get tickets for a show near you!
