The Wombats - Live at The Depot

With the many events happening at any given point on a Friday night in Salt Lake City, Utah, some of us were very fortunate on the evening of October 24, 2025 to find ourselves at The Depot. This evening, fans of all ages found themselves eagerly waiting in line to see The Wombats. Joined by Red Rum Club and Only The Poets, The Wombats found themselves back in North America for their Oh! The Ocean tour.

Starting off our evening, Red Rum Club took the stage. This is not my first time seeing Red Rum Club as they joined The Wombats for their North American tour in the fall of 2023. This lively band from Liverpool had an immediately contagious energy, between their own sound and their personal fan club jamming out on the barricade. This band was truly the perfect opener as they got the crowd moving with their fun alternative beats and live trumpet. I truly enjoyed their set and was so grateful to see them live again.

The next act was a band that was new to me called Only The Poets. Hailing from Reading, UK, Only The Poets bring a fun indie pop vibe to the stage that excites fans and makes the crowd want to move and dance. While the band’s debut album doesn’t drop until the end of January 2026, they still had a great catalog of fun music to show off, including their latest single “Thinking About Your Ex” which was released only a week prior to this show. Overall Only The Poets were a pleasure to see live and are a band I will be following closely in the future.

At long last, it was time for The Wombats. A roar of thunderous applause filled the room as the lights went down and the trio took their places on the stage. The set started off really strong with a mix of songs from three of their different albums, this includes Sorry I’m Late, I didn’t Want to Come(Oh! The Ocean), Moving to New York(A Guide to Love, Loss and Desperation) and Cheetah Tongue(Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life). This set was energetic and loud, with just a few dips for slower songs. One of my biggest joys was that, even though this tour was after the release of their latest album Oh! The Ocean, the setlist was composed of a great variety of their work, both new and old. The setlist was definitely designed for all members of the audience to have the best possible time. The stage was covered in what we can only assume is supposed to be wombat fur, with a big fuzzy back drop and a fuzzy landing for the drum kit. The band was also joined on several occasions by big dancing wombats, hyping up the crowds and playing alongside the band.

The Wombats read as a band that has been playing together for over 20 years. Everytime I see them live, I am pleasantly surprised that they seem just as close to each other and just as excited to play with one another as the last time. From fun banter with the crowd about their t-shirts and their favorite songs, to the smiles and laughs shared just among the band as they rock the stage. It makes the show that much more enjoyable, that glimpse into these friendships just makes you want to be involved.

Overall I think that the Oh! The Ocean tour is not one to be missed. It was very clear to me that all of the performers worked very hard to be where they are and aren’t afraid to tell you how grateful they are to be able to put on these shows for us all. With plenty of shows left on the band’s North American leg of the tour, I highly implore you to go catch the show for yourself.
