The Silkies - Live in STL
Last April, in a crazed and rushed road trip with my best friend, I somehow ended up in Davenport, Iowa for the first time. Coincidentally, I also found myself at the very first The Silkies show ever. About three seconds into their set, we were sold. Now, nearly a year later, I feel that tenfold.
The last weekend of March, I took a little trip up to St. Louis, MO to hang out with TheSilkies guys again. After being in STL only a month prior, they made their way back from Ohio to Missouri with Coyote Island. Anyone who steps foot into Blueberry Hill is in for a treat. It’s a St. Louis staple if you’re down on Delmar Loop, even more so if you head downstairs to the Duck Room. Countless iconic artists have played here, and The Silkies only continued that tradition.
‘Lies’ is my go-to recommendation for people anytime The Silkies come up in conversation. It gets stuck in your head immediately, it’s easy to dance along to, it’s all around a perfect song. I love that they play this song early in their set. It’s a genius move, to draw people in so quick. There’s no turning around once that song plays, you’re drawn into everything wonderful about this band instantly. These guys know how to craft their perfect setlist. You can literally watch everyone in the crowd transform into fans.
From the most genuine place in my heart: There is no other band that compares to The Silkies. Somehow, someway, these guys have figured out something entirely new. It’s going to be a short, short amount of time before this little band people love to call their own are all over magazines, record stores, even more iconic venues. Their sound is so fun and beautiful and unique. Each time they release a new song, it’s somehow more impressive. Each show they play, they seem to have gotten a little looser and they have more fun onstage.
In short, this is a band you should get into right now. Pick yourself any song to listen to, it’ll get added to a playlist soon after. You could call me a bit biased, but spending a night with your friends at a Silkies show is some of the most fun you can have.
